According to Chris Reynolds, Toyota Motor North America’s chief administrative officer, production at the site will begin in 2025. The business plans to create 1.2 million battery packs for its future electric vehicle lineup in the first year.
“This investment, which I believe is the greatest private capital investment in North Carolina history,” Reynolds said, “will create at least 1,750 new jobs and assist us in developing and localizing automotive battery production.” “Which will pave the way for battery electric vehicles built here in the United States of America,” he adds.
Toyota’s first bZ4X electric SUV
Toyota announced its first battery-electric car in April, and now the production version of its first purpose-built EV, the bZ4X SUV, has been shown. The bZ4X sport utility vehicle (SUV) is the first of seven BEVs-bZ (beyond Zero) sub-brand models from Toyota that will be released globally to serve the zero-emissions market. By 2025, the first of seven fully electric vehicles will be available.
The Toyota bZ4X SUV is fitted with a water-cooled high-density lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 71.4 kWh. It is propelled by a front-mounted electric motor with a power output of 150 kW (204 PS/201 hp) and torque of 265 Nm (195 lb-ft). This allows the base bZ4X FWD model to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.4 seconds and attain a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph), according to Toyota.
An all-wheel-drive vehicle with two 80 kW electric motors (one on each axle) producing a total of 160 kW (217.5 PS/214.5 horsepower) and 336 Nm (248 lb-ft) of torque is also available. The bZ4X AWD accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and has the same top speed.
